About this course
MA (Hons) in Portuguese and Linguistics, a joint honours degree spanning the English Language and Linguistics and Spanish, Portuguese and Latin American Studies subject areas. The curriculum includes a compulsory year abroad in Year 3 spent studying or working in a destination where Portuguese is spoken. The first year covers foundational study through Linguistics and English Language 1A and Linguistics and English Language 1B. The second year explores topics such as Cultural Responses to War, Migration, Exile, Diaspora, Crime and Detection in Literature, and Gender and Culture. The fourth year involves advanced language training alongside options including Child bilingualism, Origins and evolution of language, Speech production and perception, and History of Linguistics.
