About this course
MA (Hons) in Portuguese and Philosophy, an undergraduate joint honours degree spanning Spanish, Portuguese and Latin American Studies and Philosophy. The course includes a full academic year abroad in a country where Portuguese is spoken, undertaken during the third year. The first year covers morality and value, history of philosophy (Western and non-Western traditions), logic, and philosophy of science. The second year explores epistemology, metaphysics, philosophy of language, and philosophy of mind. The third year involves a period of study or work in one or two destinations such as Rio de Janeiro in Brazil or Lisbon and Coimbra in Portugal. The fourth year focuses on presenting and discussing cultural, political and societal topics in Portuguese, alongside advanced comprehension, summary writing, translation and composition.
