About this course
MA (Hons) in Portuguese, a Spanish, Portuguese and Latin American Studies degree focusing on language acquisition and the cultural history of Lusophone regions. Students spend the third year abroad in a country where Portuguese is spoken, either studying or working. The first year covers a wide range of academic subjects through option courses such as linguistics and language sciences, art and architectural history, and philosophy, divinity and law. The second year explores thematic topics through modules including Cultural Responses to War, Migration, Exile, Diaspora, and Crime and Detection in Literature. The third year involves a full academic year spent studying or working in destinations such as Lisbon and Coimbra in Portugal or Rio de Janeiro in Brazil. The final year concentrates on advanced linguistic proficiency and specialized studies through modules covering history, literature, film, and culture.
