About this course
MA (Hons) in Primary Education with Gaelic (Learners), an education degree focused on teaching children through the medium of Gaelic and in English. Core topics include Research Methods. The five-year programme includes a dedicated year at Sabhal Mòr Ostaig and a year-long school placement in a Gaelic-medium primary education setting. Year one introduces foundational subjects such as Primary Studies, Primary Literacies, Educational Studies, and Gaelic 1A or 1B. Year two continues with Primary Studies, Educational Studies, Gaelic 2A or 2B, Linguistics and the Gaelic Language, and Mathematics in Primary Education. Year three involves spending a year at Sabhal Mòr Ostaig on the Isle of Skye to complete An Cùrsa Comais. Year four consists of a school placement in a Gaelic-medium primary education setting alongside classes in Education and Gaelic in Scotland, and Primary Studies. Year five covers Primary Literacies, Educational Studies including a dissertation, Theory and Pedagogy of Immersion and Bilingual Education, and Additional Support for Learning.

- study Education and Gaelic in Scotland, and Primary Studies (with a Gaelic-medium focus) during the year, coming back into the University on specific weeks for classes, with other classes taken online
