About this course

MA (Hons) in Scandinavian Studies and Classics, a German and Classics degree exploring the historical and cultural connections between ancient civilizations and the Nordic region. The programme includes a compulsory year abroad in Denmark, Norway or Swedish-speaking destinations for study or work during the third year. The first year covers the history and culture of the Greek and Roman worlds, ancient Greek language, Latin language, and linguistics and language sciences. The second year progresses to ancient history, classical art and archaeology, classical literature in translation, and Cultural Responses to War. The third year consists of a period of study or work abroad across one or two destinations. The final year focuses on advanced language acquisition, including spoken Danish, Norwegian or Swedish, essay, commentary and summary writing in your Scandinavian language, and translation from your Scandinavian language into English.
