About this course

MA (Hons) in Scandinavian Studies and English Language, a joint honours degree spanning English Language and Linguistics and German. The programme includes a compulsory year abroad in Year 3 spent studying or working in Denmark, Norway or Sweden. The first year covers foundations through Linguistics and English Language 1A and Linguistics and English Language 1B. Year 2 explores variation in English over time and across geographical space, structure and history of world languages, and Dynamics of Language and Power alongside other options. Year 3 involves an integrated period abroad consisting of study in one or two destinations, work in one or two destinations, or a combination of study and work across institutions. Final-year studies in Year 4 concentrate on spoken Danish, Norwegian or Swedish, essay, commentary and summary writing in your Scandinavian language, and translation from your Scandinavian language into English.
