About this course
MA (Hons) in Scandinavian Studies and Spanish, a German and Spanish, Portuguese and Latin American Studies degree centred on the study of two European languages and their cultural contexts. The programme includes a compulsory year abroad spent studying or working in one or two international destinations. No prior knowledge of the languages is required upon entry. The first year introduces a broad range of subjects including linguistics and language sciences, philosophy, divinity and law, and history, classics and archaeology. The second year explores thematic topics through courses such as Cultural Responses to War, Migration, Exile, Diaspora, and Crime and Detection in Literature. The third year is spent abroad through study, work placements, or a combination of both options. The final year concentrates on advanced language acquisition, covering essay, commentary and summary writing, translation, and spoken fluency in Spanish alongside Danish, Norwegian or Swedish, supported by optional study in film, literature, history, politics, and media and cultural production.
