About this course

MA (Hons) in Spanish and Linguistics, an English Language and Linguistics and Spanish, Portuguese and Latin American Studies degree centred on the study of language structures alongside Spanish culture and communication. The programme includes a compulsory year abroad spent studying or working in a Spanish-speaking destination. The first year covers introductory modules such as Linguistics and English Language 1A and Linguistics and English Language 1B alongside outside subjects. The second year explores specialised areas through courses including Cultural Responses to War, Crime and Detection in Literature, Introduction to European Cinema, and Dynamics of Language and Power. The third year is spent abroad, offering options to study at one or two institutions, undertake work placements, or participate in the British Council’s English Language Assistants programme. Students can also choose to study Portuguese or Catalan as part of the degree.
