About this course
MA (Hons) in Spanish and Politics, a politics and international relations and spanish, portuguese and latin-american studies degree examining the intersections of language, culture, and governance. The course includes a compulsory third year spent abroad through study, work placements, or volunteering. The first year introduces foundational subjects through Politics and International Relations 1A: Concepts and Debates, International Relations 1B: The Global Dimension, and Political Thinkers (an introduction to political theory). The second year covers thematic modules such as Cultural Responses to War, Migration, Exile, Diaspora, Crime and Detection in Literature, Gender and Culture, The Coming-of-Age Narrative, Introduction to European Cinema, Dynamics of Language and Power, and Languages Beyond University. The third year involves studying or working abroad across one or two destinations. The fourth year offers advanced study in film, literature, history, politics, language, linguistics, and media and cultural production.
