About this course
MEng (Hons) in Structural Engineering with Architecture, a civil engineering and architecture degree focused on the built environment through structural analysis and design. Core topics include Engineering Design and Critical & Analytical Thinking. The programme is taught jointly with the Edinburgh School of Architecture and Landscape Architecture and aligns with several United Nations Sustainable Development Goals. The first year covers architectural history, fundamental mathematics, and interdisciplinary engineering and architectural design tasks. The second year introduces structural mechanics, engineering materials, soil and rock mechanics and engineering geology, engineering mathematics, land surveying, and engineering construction. The third year explores the synergy of structure and architecture, conceptual design and sustainability, geotechnical engineering, structural analysis and engineering, and transport systems engineering. The fourth year advances into structural design and architecture, foundation engineering, engineering design, environmental engineering, fire safety engineering, engineering construction, construction management, structural dynamics, and offshore and renewable energy.
