About this course
BSc (Hons) in Theoretical Physics, a physics degree focused on the mathematical and computational formulation of physical theory. Core topics include Programming, Data Analysis, Statistics, Mathematical Modelling, Laboratory Techniques, and Research Methods. Students follow the same foundational curriculum as general physics students during the first two years before transitioning to advanced theoretical specialisation. The first year covers introductory quantum mechanics, classical mechanics, waves, electricity, and nuclear and particle physics. The second year introduces calculus, algebra, programming, data analysis, and experimental techniques. The third year advances into electromagnetism, thermodynamics, quantum mechanics, and numerical algorithms. The final year incorporates specialized study in relativity, statistical physics, condensed matter physics, and quantum theory, alongside an independent research project.
