About this course

BA in Environmental Humanities, a history degree centred on the cultural, historical, and political dimensions of environmental and climate change. Core topics include Research Methods, Fieldwork, Project Management, Accounting, Historical Research, Critical & Analytical Thinking, Artificial Intelligence & Machine Learning, and Design & Creative Practice. Students engage in practical field-based activities and collaborate with local businesses, charities, and societies. The first year covers foundational concepts through compulsory modules such as Climate Emergency! Environmental Humanities Fieldschool, Foundations of Environmental Humanities, An Introduction to Histories of Science and Environment, and Generative AI and Sustainable Futures: Ethics, Society, and Scholarship, alongside optional choices including Understanding Work and Organisations and Global Issues in Environmental Science. The second year continues with compulsory study in Critical Elements of Environmental Humanities: Cultures of Earth and Water and Environmental Humanities Field Methods. Optional modules allow students to explore diverse areas spanning business, law, politics, and historical studies such as Business Beyond Profit, Ecological Economics, A Legal Foundation for Environmental Protection, and Revolution and Abolition: History and Legacies of the Atlantic Slave Trade.
