About this course
BEng in Civil Engineering, a civil engineering degree centred on infrastructure development, structural analysis, and professional practice. Core topics include Programming, Circuit Design, Computer Architecture, Statistics, Mathematical Modelling, Project Management, Engineering Design, Critical & Analytical Thinking, and Ethics & Professional Practice. The course includes site visits and fieldwork, with opportunities for summer placements and a year in industry. The first year introduces core foundational concepts through modules such as Engineering Mathematics and Scientific Computing, Multi-Disciplinary Group Challenge Project, Fundamentals of Mechanics, and Fundamentals of Materials. Students also study Fundamentals of Electronics and Fundamentals of Engineering. The second year advances technical knowledge with compulsory modules including Civil Engineering Challenge Project, Modelling of Engineering Systems, Soil Mechanics, and Solid Mechanics. Further study in the second year covers Structural Behaviour, Civil Engineering Practice, and Construction Project Management.
