About this course
BSc in Biochemistry, a biochemistry degree focused on understanding biological systems at a cellular and biochemical level. Core topics include Programming, Data Analysis, Statistics, Laboratory Techniques, Research Methods, Project Management, Communication & Writing, Critical & Analytical Thinking, and Artificial Intelligence & Machine Learning. Four-year programmes include a year working on a research project in industry or a year studying at a partner institution overseas, while this specific route is structured as a three-year undergraduate degree. The first year covers the foundations of biological and chemical sciences through Biochemistry, Fundamental Principles for Bioscientists, Genetics, Microbiology, Cells, Structure and Reactivity of Organic Compounds I, and General Chemistry. The second year progresses into specialized study with compulsory modules including Research Skills and Bioethics, Structure and Reactivity of Organic Compounds II, Metabolism, Advanced Cell Biology, and Analytical Techniques in Biochemistry. Students can tailor their studies in the second year by selecting from optional modules such as Forensic Science, Molecular Biology of the Gene, Bioinorganic Chemistry, Genomics and Introductory Bioinformatics, Modern Theories of Evolution, Molecular Plant Science, Advanced Microbiology, Medical Genetics, Experimental Pharmacology, and Employability and Career Development.
