About this course

BSc in Computer Science (Defence), a computer science (defence) degree focused on the application of computing technologies within the defence and security sector. Core topics include Programming, Computer Architecture, Embedded Systems, Data Analysis, Statistics, Mathematical Modelling, Project Management, and Artificial Intelligence & Machine Learning. Students benefit from specialist AR, VR, XR, and sensor computer labs alongside teaching links with defence industry partners. The first year introduces foundational principles through compulsory modules such as Programming, Object-Oriented Programming, Data Structures and Algorithms, and Fundamentals of Machine Learning. The second year advances technical capabilities with compulsory studies in Functional Programming, Software Development, Database Theory and Design, and Network and Computer Security, complemented by a collaborative Team Project. Optional modules in the second year cover subjects such as Web Development, Artificial Intelligence and Applications, Mobile and Ubiquitous Computing, and The C Family.
