About this course

BSc in Geography with Applied GIS is a geography degree centred on spatial analysis and environmental systems. Core topics include Data Analysis, Research Methods, Fieldwork, Critical & Analytical Thinking, Human Behaviour, Social & Cultural Analysis, and Global & Comparative Perspective. The curriculum provides grounding in physical and human geography alongside a specialisation in geographic information systems starting from the second year. The first year covers planetary history, contemporary environmental issues, geographical concepts, and foundational fieldwork through compulsory modules such as Earth System Science: The History of Our Planet, Geographies of Environment and Sustainability, Concepts in Geography, and Fieldwork in Geography, alongside optional study in cultural or global change topics. The second year introduces geospatial technology and advanced methodologies through compulsory modules including Introduction to Remote Sensing, Applied GIS: Mapping with Technology, Numerical Methods for Physical Geographers, and Research Design in Physical Geography. Optional modules allow specialisation in areas such as urban futures, migration, health geographies, environmental reconstruction, climate change, and sustainable seas, supplemented by field courses in northern Spain and Freiburg.
