About this course

MEng in Mechanical Engineering, a mechanical engineering degree centred on the analysis, design, and manufacture of mechanical systems and structures. Core topics include Programming, Circuit Design, Computer Architecture, Control Systems, Data Analysis, Statistics, Mathematical Modelling, and Engineering Design. The programme features a core first year that establishes foundational principles across engineering disciplines before specialisation takes place in subsequent years, alongside opportunities for industry placements. The first year covers the foundations through Engineering Mathematics and Scientific Computing, Fundamentals of Mechanics, and Fundamentals of Electronics. The second year introduces core analytical and design methods via Introduction to Fluid Dynamics, Solid Mechanics, Control Engineering, and Thermodynamics and Heat Transfer. The third year builds on advanced technical principles through modules such as Structural Dynamics, Finite Element Analysis for High Value Manufacturing, and the two-part Mechanical Design and Build project sequence. Optional modules in the third year allow students to explore topics including Operations Management, Fluid Dynamics and CFD, Mechatronics, Control Engineering, Zero Emission Vehicles, and Energy, Materials and Sustainability.
