MEng Mining Engineering
About this course
The MEng in Mining Engineering is an engineering degree centred on the sustainable extraction, processing, and management of natural resources. Core topics include Programming, Microelectronics, Statistics, Mathematical Modelling, Fieldwork, Project Management, and Engineering Design. Students undertake an industry work placement and complete a research-focused project. The first year introduces general engineering foundations through modules such as Engineering Mathematics and Scientific Computing, Multi-Disciplinary Group Challenge Project, Fundamentals of Mechanics, and Fundamentals of Materials. The second year focuses on applied topics through Geotechnics, Resource Cycle and Value Chain, Resource Extraction Methods, and Resource Development. The third year advances into specialized operations with Surface Excavation Design, Tunnelling and Excavation Design, Politics, Mining and Sustainable Development, and Mineral Processing, Recycling and Resource Recovery.
