About this course

MEng in Systems Engineering, an engineering degree centred on the design, integration and management of complex systems within chemical engineering. Core topics include Programming, Systems Design, Signal Processing, Microelectronics, Control Systems, Data Analysis, Statistics, Mathematical Modelling, Research Methods, Project Management, Artificial Intelligence & Machine Learning. This four-year integrated Masters programme features a hands-on group challenge project each year and concludes with an advanced fourth year incorporating a work placement. The first year covers foundational principles through Engineering Mathematics and Scientific Computing, Fundamentals of Mechanics, Fundamentals of Materials, and Fundamentals of Electronics. The second year progresses to Data, Signals and Systems, Applied Thermodynamics, Fluid Mechanics, and Engineering Systems. The third year includes Network Engineering, Monitoring and Management, Systems Modelling and Control, Risk, Reliability Systems and Safety Management, alongside a Dissertation Project and a Systems Challenge Project. Optional modules in the third year allow study in areas such as Applied AI and Control, Life Cycle Analysis, Energy Storage Technology, Solar Power, and Sustainable Architecture, with an optional Industry Summer Placement also available.
