About this course

MPhys in Physics, a physics degree centred on fundamental physical principles and experimental methods. Core topics include Programming, Data Analysis, Statistics, Mathematical Modelling, Research Methods, and Global & Comparative Perspective. Students complete a major project and dissertation linked to departmental research groups during the final year, and have the option to undertake a salaried research placement with industry partners. The first year covers core foundations through Physics of Everyday Life, Mathematics Skills, Computational Data Analysis, and Experimental Physics. The second year progresses through modules such as From Fields to Quanta, Mathematics for Physicists, Experimental Physics II, and Employability and Skills Development II, alongside optional choices including Scientific Programming in C and The Physics of Living Systems. The third year deepens advanced knowledge with compulsory modules like Nuclear and High Energy Particle Physics, States of Matter, and Project and Dissertation. Optional choices in later stages allow specialisation in areas such as quantum technology, astrophysics, soft matter, and theoretical physics.
