About this course
The MPhys in Physics with Astrophysics is a physics degree centred on astrophysical phenomena and core physical principles. Core topics include Programming, Data Analysis, Statistics, Mathematical Modelling, Research Methods, and Global & Comparative Perspective. The course features advanced research projects aligned with departmental research groups and a continuous professional skills development programme. The first year introduces foundational material through Physics of Everyday Life, Mathematics Skills, Computational Data Analysis, and Experimental Physics. The second year expands upon this with modules such as Observing the Universe, From Fields to Quanta, Mathematics for Physicists, and Experimental Physics II, alongside optional topics like Scientific Programming in C. The third year incorporates advanced compulsory studies including Nuclear and High Energy Particle Physics, Galaxies and High Energy Astrophysics, Stars from Birth to Death, and a Project and Dissertation. Students can further tailor their studies in later stages through optional modules covering areas such as theoretical methods, quantum technology, and soft matter.
