About this course
MSci in Biochemistry, a biochemistry degree centred on molecular and cellular mechanisms of living systems. Core topics include Programming, Data Analysis, Statistics, Laboratory Techniques, Research Methods, Project Management, Communication & Writing, Critical & Analytical Thinking, and Artificial Intelligence & Machine Learning. The four-year programme mirrors the BSc Biochemistry route for the first three years before culminating in a dedicated research-focused fourth year. The first year covers the foundations through Biochemistry, Fundamental Principles for Bioscientists, Genetics, and Microbiology. The second year builds competence with Research Skills and Bioethics, Structure and Reactivity of Organic Compounds II, Metabolism, and Analytical Techniques in Biochemistry, alongside optional topics such as Forensic Science or Molecular Biology of the Gene. The third year advances into complex topics with Horizons of Biochemical Research, Biosciences Research Project, Protein Structure in Research and Industry, and optional choices including Pharmacology and Medicinal Chemistry or Bioinformatics. A fourth-year research-focused component completes the integrated masters qualification.
