MSci Engineering Geology and Geotechnics
About this course
MSci in Engineering Geology and Geotechnics, an earth and environmental sciences degree centered on the properties of rocks and soils and geological processes. Core topics include Data Analysis, Mathematical Modelling, Research Methods, Fieldwork, Engineering Design, Critical & Analytical Thinking, and Ethics & Professional Practice. The course includes practical training through fieldwork and laboratory classes, with instruction delivered by the Camborne School of Mines. The first year covers the foundations through Earth System Science, Earth and Environmental Chemistry, and Field Geology and Geological Maps. The second year focuses on structural geology and geotechnical behavior through Structural Geology and Tectonics, Geological Mapping Techniques, and Geotechnics. The third year advances into specialized applications with Surface Excavation Design, GIS for Geologists, and Hydrogeology. Optional modules allow students to explore topics such as Tunnelling and Excavation Design, Contaminated Land Management and Remediation, and Exploration Techniques, alongside a dissertation project.
