MSci Geology
About this course
MSci in Geology, an earth and environmental sciences degree centred on the study of the Earth, its evolution, processes, systems and resources. Core topics include Programming, Data Analysis, Mathematical Modelling, Research Methods, Fieldwork, Critical & Analytical Thinking, and Ethics & Professional Practice. This four-year undergraduate programme is accredited by the Geological Society and incorporates extensive fieldwork training. The first year covers fundamental concepts through modules such as Earth System Science, Earth and Environmental Chemistry, Field Geology and Geological Maps, and Quantitative Methods for Geoscientists. The second year focuses on deformation and materials with modules including Structural Geology and Tectonics, Sedimentology and Stratigraphy, Geological Mapping Techniques, and Igneous and Metamorphic Geology. The third year advances into applied topics and independent research through GIS for Geologists, Volcanology, Climate Change: Past and Future, International Field Class, and Dissertation Project. Students can also tailor their studies by choosing from optional modules such as Mineral Deposit Geology, Energy Resource Geology, and Hydrogeology.
