MSci Resource and Exploration Geology
About this course
MSci in Resource and Exploration Geology, an earth and environmental sciences degree focused on the study of the Earth, its natural systems, and resource exploration. Core topics include Programming, Data Analysis, Mathematical Modelling, Research Methods, Fieldwork, Engineering Design, Critical & Analytical Thinking, and Ethics & Professional Practice. The course is taught by the Camborne School of Mines at the Penryn campus in Cornwall and is accredited by the Geological Society. The first year establishes fundamental scientific principles through modules such as Earth System Science, Earth and Environmental Chemistry, Field Geology and Geological Maps, and Quantitative Methods for Geoscientists. The second year advances core geological knowledge with Structural Geology and Tectonics, Sedimentology and Stratigraphy, Geological Mapping Techniques, and Igneous and Metamorphic Geology, while offering optional modules including Geotechnics and Geophysics. The third year focuses on applied professional topics through Mineral Deposit Geology, GIS for Geologists, Exploration Techniques, International Field Class, and Dissertation Project, alongside optional choices such as Surface Excavation Design, Hydrogeology, and Energy Resource Geology.
