About this course

MA/MA(SocSci) in Classics (Classical Civilisation), a psychology and classics degree centred on the literature, history, art and material culture of ancient Greece and Rome. Core topics include Research Methods. Students can study Latin and Greek languages at any level and have the opportunity to visit archaeological sites and museums in Italy and Greece. The first year introduces foundational themes through Classical Civilisation 1A: Myth and Politics in Classical Athens, Classical Civilisation 1B: Augustan Rome: From Republic to Empire, Greek 1A: Basic Greek 1, and Latin 1A: Basic Latin 1. The second year expands historical and cultural knowledge with modules such as Classical Civilisation 2A: Identities, Ideology and the Hellenistic World, Classical Civilisation 2B: Empire and Identity, Greek 2A:Intermediate Greek 1, and Latin 2A: Intermediate Latin 1. In subsequent years, students undertake advanced study and complete a Dissertation (Classics), alongside specialized options exploring areas like Ancient Medicine, Ancient Warfare, and Interpreting Greek Tragedy.
