About this course

MA in English Language & Linguistics, a psychology and english language and linguistics degree exploring structural and historical aspects of human communication. Core topics include data analysis and research methods. Students complete an independent dissertation project in the final year. The course begins in the first year with compulsory modules such as English Language & Linguistics 1A: Language, Meaning, and Power and English Language & Linguistics 1B: Language, Society, and Change, establishing foundational concepts in meaning and social context. The second year continues with English Language & Linguistics 2A: Language, People, and Culture and English Language & Linguistics 2B: Language, Mind, and Expression. Later study allows specialisation through optional modules spanning historical texts, phonetics, sociolinguistics, psycholinguistics, and lexicography, alongside dissertation options. Representative optional modules include Corpus Linguistics, Phonetics 1: Introductory Concepts, Sociolinguistics, and Introduction to Psycholinguistics.
