About this course
BSc in Environmental Geoscience, an Environmental Science and Earth and Environmental Sciences degree examining the interactions between geological systems and human activities. Core topics include Research Methods. The course includes a fieldwork programme across various UK locations and shares its first two years with geology programmes. The first year covers foundational concepts through Earth Science 1A and Earth Science 1B. The second year continues this grounding via Earth Science 2A and Earth Science 2B. The third year builds advanced knowledge with compulsory modules including Sedimentary Systems and Deposits, Hydrogeology, Environmental Aqueous Geochemistry, Landscape Dynamics, Glacial Landsystems, and Environmental Geoscience Skills. Students can also select optional topics such as Geological Hazards, Planetary Science, Coastal and Climate Change: Science, Risk, Vulnerability and Adaptation, Environmental Hazards, Geographical Education: Pedagogy and Practice, Oceanography, Polar Environments, GIS A:Applied Spatial Analysis, and GIS B:Theory & Practice. The final year involves compulsory study in Advanced Environmental Geoscience Skills, Climates: Past and Future, Engineering Geology: Geotechnical and Environmental, and Geo-Environmental Policy and Planning for Sustainable Futures, alongside an Independent Environmental Geoscience Dissertation.
