About this course
BSc/MSci in Genetics, a genetics degree spanning molecular biology, medicine, and biotechnology. Core topics include Data Analysis, Statistics, and Research Methods. The programme offers an optional year working in a research laboratory in academia or industry. The first year covers core science through Biology 1A, Biology 1B, Chemistry 1, and Science Fundamentals-1X. The second year builds competence with Fundamental Topics in Biology 2, Genes, Molecules & Cells 2, Core Concepts in Human Biological Sciences 2, Animal Biology, Evolution and Ecology 2, Investigating Human Biological Sciences 2, and Microbiology and Immunology 2. The third year advances knowledge through Genetics 3A and Genetics 3B. The final year involves an independent investigation chosen from the Life Sciences Investigative Honours Project, Life Sciences Outreach Honours Project, Life Sciences Internship Honours Project, and Life Sciences Dissertation Honours Project, alongside compulsory study in Current Topics in Genetics 4X. Students also select from various options including Cancer 4B, Human Molecular Genetics 4Y, Bioinformatics and Data Analysis using R 4B, and Biological Mechanisms of Ageing 4Y.
