About this course
BSc in Geology (faster route), a geology (faster route) degree exploring whole Earth processes, structure, composition, history, hazards, climate and resources. Core topics include Research Methods. The course offers an accelerated three-year pathway for high-achieving school leavers, incorporating an additional week of technical induction activities during welcome week. Year 2 covers fundamental concepts through Earth Science 2A and Earth Science 2B. Year 3 advances technical knowledge via Sedimentary Systems and Deposits, Igneous and Metamorphic Geology, Orogens and Basins: Structure and Resources, Minerals, Metals and Materials for Sustainable Futures, and Geological Skills. Year 4 focuses on advanced training through Advanced Geological Skills, Engineering Geology: Geotechnical and Environmental, and Hydrogeology, alongside an Independent Geology Dissertation. Optional modules allow students to explore topics such as Geological Hazards, Landscape Dynamics, Environmental Aqueous Geochemistry, Planetary Science, Glacial Landsystems, Climates: Past and Future, GIS A:Applied Spatial Analysis, and GIS B:Theory & Practice.
