Entry requirements
A level: AAB or BBB (Additional requirements: A-level Music.) IB: 34 (6,5,5 HL) (Additional requirements: HL Music.) Scottish Higher: ABB is the minimum requirement from S5 to be reviewed for an S6 offer Offers are not guaranteed to applicants who meet the minimum from S5 Typically offers will be made a AAAA by end of S6. B at Advanced Higher is equivalent to A at Higher Additional requirements - Higher Music Scottish Higher (widening access): MD20 – BBBB (also other target groups*) MD40 – AABB* (ABB is the minimum requirement from S5 to be reviewed for an S6 offer) Additional requirements: Higher Music. Successful completion of Top-Up or one of our Summer Schools.
About this course
BMus in Music, a music degree centred on music practice, composition and analysis. Core topics include Research Methods. Students receive a bursary toward private instrumental or vocal tuition costs. The first year covers the foundations through Musical Techniques, Foundation (BMus), Performance One, Listening in Culture and Listening through Analysis. The second year introduces further skills with Analysis: Formalist Approaches, Introduction to Composition, Musical Techniques, Intermediate and Sonic Arts: Interacting with Sound. In subsequent years, options expand to include topics such as Genders, Popular Music Politics, Sonic Arts: Interactive Audiovisual Media, Sonic Arts: Sound for Narrative Film, Jazz Style and Practice and Experimental Music Practice. Students can also complete advanced practical work and a final-year Dissertation in Music.
