Entry requirements
A level: AAB or BBB (Additional requirements: A-level Biology or Chemistry.) IB: 34 (6,5,5) (Additional requirements: HL Biology or Chemistry.) Scottish Higher: ABBB is the minimum requirement from S5 to be reviewed for an S6 offer Offers are not guaranteed to applicants who meet the minimum from S5 Typically offers will be made at AAAAA by end of S6. B at Advanced Higher is equivalent to A at Higher Additional requirements: Higher Biology or Chemistry. (A in either). Scottish Higher (widening access): MD20 : BBBB (also other target groups*) MD40 : AABB (ABB S5 minimum for consideration)* Additional requirements: Higher Biology or Chemistry. Successful completion of Top-Up or one of our Summer Schools.
About this course
BSc/MSci in Pharmacology, a pharmacology degree focused on the study of medicines, bodily substances, food additives, agricultural compounds, and toxins. Core topics include Statistics and Research Methods. Students can undertake a work placement with companies such as AstraZeneca, GlaxoSmithKline, and Pfizer. The first year covers foundation modules including Biology 1A, Biology 1B, Chemistry 1, and Science Fundamentals-1X. The second year progresses through Core Concepts in Human Biological Sciences 2, Investigating Human Biological Sciences 2, Fundamental Topics in Biology 2, Animal Biology, Evolution and Ecology 2, Genes, Molecules & Cells 2, and Microbiology and Immunology and Immunology 2. The third year builds specialized knowledge via Pharmacology 3A and Pharmacology 3B. The final fourth year centers on advanced study featuring Core Skills in Pharmacology (Drug Discovery & Development) 4X core (compulsory) and a choice between projects such as the Life Sciences Investigative Honours Project, Life Sciences Outreach Honours Project, Life Sciences Internship Honours Project, and Life Sciences Dissertation Honours Project. Further study options include Cardiovascular Pharmacology and Therapeutics 4A option (compulsory), Cell Signalling and Disease 4D option (compulsory), CNS Neurotransmitters and Drug Development 4Y option (compulsory), Molecular Basis of Cardiometabolic Disease 4B option (compulsory), Statistics for the Life Sciences (Sem 1) 4Y option (compulsory), Statistics for the Life Sciences (Sem 2) 4E option (compulsory), Personalised Medicine & Clinical Trials 4C option (compulsory), Cancer Immunopharmacology 4B option (compulsory), and Science Communication 4Y option (compulsory).
