Entry requirements
A level: ABB or BBB (Additional requirements: A-level English or another Humanities subject.) IB: 34 (6,5,5) (Additional requirements: English HL6 or Humanities HL6 with English SL6.) Scottish Higher: BBBB is the minimum requirement from S5 to be reviewed for an S6 offer Offers are not guaranteed to applicants who meet the minimum from S5 Typically offers will be made at AAAAB by end of S6. B at Advanced Higher is equivalent to A at Higher Additional requirements: Higher English and a Higher Humanities subject at AA (AB may be considered). Scottish Higher (widening access): MD20 : BBBB (also other target groups*) MD40 : AABB* Additional requirements: Additional requirements: Higher English and a Higher Humanities subject. About this course
MA/BSc/MA(SocSci) in Philosophy, a psychology and philosophy degree centred on examining profound questions concerning knowledge, existence, and human nature through systematic reason and argument. Core topics include Research Methods and Artificial Intelligence & Machine Learning. Students complete a dissertation as part of their studies. The first year introduces foundational thinking and living concepts through modules such as Philosophy 1A: How Should I Think? and Philosophy 1B: How Should I Live? The second year deepens this inquiry with courses including Philosophy 2A: What am I? and Philosophy 2B: What is there? Later years offer extensive breadth across advanced subjects such as Contemporary Ethics, Epistemology, Formal Logic, and History Of Western Philosophy. Students can also investigate specialized areas through options like Philosophy Of Mind, Political Philosophy, and Consciousness: Brains, Artificial Intelligence, and Subjective Experience. The curriculum concludes with a Directed Individual Research/Dissertation in the final year.
