About this course
BSc/MSci in Software Engineering (in partnership with KMITL), a degree combining computing theory with the principles and practices of software development. Core topics include programming, systems design and research methods. A compulsory summer placement in the third year places students on software projects in a professional setting. The integrated master's adds a fifth year in which students carry out a supervised research project. The third year provides the core of the course through Algorithmics I (H), Systems Programming (H), Data Fundamentals (H), Human-centred Systems Design and Evaluation (H) and Professional Software Development (H), alongside a Team Project (H) and the compulsory Software Engineering Summer Placement (H). These modules cover algorithm design and analysis, low-level programming, data handling, the evaluation of user-centred designs and working in a development team on a substantial project. The fourth year centres on the Individual Project (H) (Single), an extended piece of independent work, with Professional Skills and Issues (H) addressing the wider responsibilities and considerations of the profession. The integrated MSci extends into a fifth year with Research Methods And Techniques (M) and Project Research Readings In Computing Science (M), culminating in the MSci Individual Project.
