About this course
BSc/MSci in Zoology, a zoology degree examining the biology of animals, from form and function to ecology and evolution. Core topics include Research Methods and Fieldwork. Field courses run on Loch Lomond and at the Field Studies Council centre at Millport in the Firth of Clyde. The fourth year culminates in an honours project, taken as an investigative, outreach, internship or dissertation route. The first year establishes the biological and chemical foundations through Biology 1A, Biology 1B, Chemistry 1 and Science Fundamentals-1X. The second year covers animal biology, evolution and ecology through Animal Biology, Evolution and Ecology 2, Genes, Molecules & Cells 2 and Microbiology and Immunology 2. The third year is built around Zoology 3A and Zoology 3B. The fourth year pairs compulsory core training in Animal Biology Core Skills 4X with applied ecology teaching in Applying Ecology (Conservation and Management of Populations) 4A, Behavioural Ecology 4B, Disease Ecology 4C and Tropical Ecology 4Y. Other modules cover conservation and ecological specialisms, including Species Diversification and Conservation 4A, Animal Ecophysiology 4Y and Movement and Landscape Ecology 4B. The year concludes with an honours project, taken as Life Sciences Investigative Honours Project, Life Sciences Outreach Honours Project, Life Sciences Internship Honours Project or Life Sciences Dissertation Honours Project.
