About this course

MSci in Biological Sciences, a biology degree spanning living systems from molecular mechanisms to whole ecosystems. Core topics include Programming, Statistics, and Fieldwork. Students can select optional modules starting in the second year, choose from specialism areas such as ecology, immunology and infection, systems biology, microbiology, plant sciences, developmental biology and neuroscience in the third year, and complete a seven-month final-year research project. The first year covers core foundations through compulsory modules including Biological Chemistry and Microbiology, Evolution and Diversity, Cell Biology and Genetics, Ecology and Evolution, and Core Skills for Life Scientists. Biological Chemistry and Microbiology introduces cellular biochemistry and metabolism. Evolution and Diversity examines the relationships and evolution of animals, plants, and fungi. Cell Biology and Genetics addresses information transfer pathways and genetic systems. Ecology and Evolution explores ecosystems, communities, and populations. Core Skills for Life Scientists introduces mathematics, communication, statistics, and bioinformatics.
