About this course
MSci in Biotechnology, a biochemistry degree focused on the application of biological and technological principles to living systems. Core topics include Programming, Statistics, and Research Methods. The degree features a seven-month research project in the final year and allows specialisation in synthetic biology, systems biology, cancer, metabolic engineering, structural biology and drug design, and neuroscience during the third year. The first year covers foundational concepts through Biological Chemistry, Cell Biology, Enzymes and Metabolism, Molecular Biology, and Core Skills for Life Scientists. The second year advances into specialized topics with modules such as Structural Biology, Genes and Genomics, Integrative Cell Biology, Protein Science, Bioinformatics, Programming and Statistics, Tutored Dissertation, Topics in Biotechnology, and I-Explore. Optional modules enable students to focus on areas including synthetic biology, systems biology, cancer, metabolic engineering, structural biology and drug design, and neuroscience. The course culminates in a substantial final-year research project.
