About this course

MSci in Chemistry with Medicinal Chemistry, a chemistry degree centred on chemical sciences and drug development processes. Core topics include Programming, Data Analysis, Research Methods, Critical & Analytical Thinking. The curriculum culminates in a substantial six-month research project based in an academic research group within a medicinal chemistry field. The first year establishes core foundations through modules such as Language of Chemistry, Structure and Bonding: Atomic Structure to Molecular Orbitals, Introduction to Spectroscopy, and Practical Chemistry 1. The second year expands into broader systems via Electronic States and Bonding, Analysis of Molecules, Materials and Mixtures, Solids, Liquids and Interfaces, and Practical Chemistry 2. The third year continues with Advanced Chemistry Topics 1, Advanced Chemistry Topics 2 for Medicinal Chemistry, Practical Chemistry 3 for Medicinal Chemistry, and I-Explore. The final year includes core study in From Molecules to Medicine alongside optional modules such as Advanced Catalysis, Advanced Stereochemistry, Synthesis and Biosynthesis, Molecular Imaging, Sustainable Chemistry, Chemistry of Nanomaterials, Membrane Biophysics, Processable Electronics from Materials Chemistry to Device Applications, Renewable Energy to Fuels and Chemicals, and Nanomedicine.
