About this course

The MEng in Mechanical Engineering is a mechanical engineering degree focused on mathematical and computational approaches to industrial systems and design. Core topics include Programming, Control Systems, Data Analysis, Statistics, Mathematical Modelling, Engineering Design, and Artificial Intelligence & Machine Learning. The final year includes a supervised individual research project where students apply fundamental engineering principles to complex problems. The first year establishes core foundations through compulsory modules such as Mathematics and Computing 1, Mechanics, Thermodynamics 1, and Design and Manufacture 1. The second year continues with specialized studies including Mathematics and Computing 2, Heat Transfer, Dynamics, and Design and Manufacture 2. The third year incorporates practical engineering work via Design, Make and Test Project, alongside compulsory technical subjects like Fracture Mechanics A, Fluid Mechanics 3A, and Thermodynamics 3A. The final year focuses on advanced engineering applications featuring Aircraft Engine Technology, Future Clean Transport Technology, and Mechanical Transmissions Technology, alongside an Individual Project. Optional modules across later stages allow students to pursue specialized interests in areas such as advanced control, nuclear energy, machine learning, and sustainable engineering design.
