About this course
BSc in Medical Biosciences, a biomedical science degree centred on human biology, molecular disease mechanisms, and research-intensive laboratory practice. Core topics include Data Analysis, Statistics, Research Methods, Ethics & Professional Practice, and Artificial Intelligence & Machine Learning. The curriculum includes a final-year research project that can be undertaken as a laboratory-based study, literature-based study, or work placement. The first year introduces fundamental concepts through compulsory modules such as Chemistry of Biological Interactions, Integrative Body Systems, Lab Pod 1, Molecular & Cellular Biology, and Statistics. The second year extends these foundations with modules including Genetics & Genomics, Lab Pod 2, and I-Explore, alongside optional topics such as Microbiome in Health & Disease, Pharmacology & Toxicology, Stem Cells & Reproductive Biology, Cancer Biology, Cardiovascular & Thoracic Biology, Immunology & Inflammation, and Neuroscience. In the final year, students select from advanced options spanning Biomedical Data Science, Precision Medicine, Regenerative Medicine, Global Health, and Ethics and Medical Regulation.
