About this course
BSc in Microbiology, a microbiology degree focused on the study of microorganisms, their applications, and living systems from the cellular level to whole organisms. Core topics include Programming, Statistics, and Research Methods. The three-year curriculum includes a tutored dissertation and a choice between laboratory, computational, or field-based research projects in the final year. The first year covers foundational principles through Biological Chemistry and Microbiology, Evolution and Diversity, Cell Biology and Genetics, Ecology and Evolution, and Core Skills for Life Scientists. The second year progresses to Applied Molecular Biology, Genetics, Bioinformatics, Programming and Statistics (BS), Tutored Dissertation, I-Explore, Molecular Microbiology, and Immunology, alongside optional choices such as Computational Omics and Molecular and Cell Biology Skills. The third year allows students to specialise through optional modules covering Metabolic & Network Engineering, Medical Microbiology, The Microbiome, Synthetic Biology, Advanced Immunology, and a Practical Research Project.
