About this course

BSc in Physics, a physics degree centred on the fundamental laws governing the physical world. Core topics include Programming, Circuit Design, Statistics, Mathematical Modelling, Laboratory Techniques, and Research Methods. This accredited three-year programme incorporates practical laboratory work, computational projects, and an independent investigation in the final year. The first year covers foundational concepts through compulsory modules such as Practical Physics: Laboratory, Computing and Problem Solving, Vector Fields, Electricity and Magnetism, Mechanics and Relativity, Oscillations and Waves, and Statistics of Measurement and the Summer Project, alongside optional choices like Advanced Electronics. The second year advances experimental and theoretical understanding via Advanced Practical Physics, Thermal Physics and the Structure of Matter, Differential Equations and Electromagnetism, Quantum Physics, and I-Explore, with optional studies including Suns, Stars and Planets and Environmental Physics. The third year consolidates learning through Third Year Physics Laboratory, Nuclear and Particle Physics, Comprehensives, and Solid State Physics. Optional modules allow specialisation in subjects such as Lasers, Astrophysics, General Relativity, Plasma Physics, and Quantum Information.
