About this course

MSci Hons in Biomedicine, a biomedical science degree centred on biological and medical principles to understand, diagnose, manage and treat diseases. Core topics include Statistics, Laboratory Techniques, Research Methods, Psychological Assessment, Clinical Skills, Critical & Analytical Thinking, Human Behaviour, and Artificial Intelligence & Machine Learning. This four-year integrated master's course culminates in an extended research project and is supported by research-active academics working across areas such as cancer, infectious conditions, and inflammatory disorders. The first year establishes core knowledge through modules like Anatomy and Physiology, Genetics and Biotechnology, Introduction to Biosciences, Microbes, Pathogens and Immunity, and Molecules to Cells, with optional study available in areas such as biomedical science and pharmacology. The second year advances into molecular and cellular mechanisms via Biochemistry of Cellular Metabolism, Cell and Developmental Biology, Microbiology and Immunology, and Molecular Genetics, alongside optional choices including drug design and neuroscience. Year three focuses on independent investigation and complex pathology through compulsory study in Biosciences Research Project, Cancer Biology and Therapeutics, and Global Health Challenges, supplemented by diverse optional modules spanning bioinformatics, ageing, and ethics. The final fourth year centers upon the Biosciences Integrated Master's Research Project, allowing students to build on earlier investigative training through specialised optional study in advanced therapeutics, brain disorders, and neglected tropical diseases.
