About this course

BSc Hons in Biomedicine (Placement Year), a biomedical science degree centred on human health, disease, and medical research. Core topics include Laboratory Techniques, Research Methods, Psychological Assessment, Clinical Skills, Critical & Analytical Thinking, Human Behaviour, and Artificial Intelligence & Machine Learning. This four-year course includes a professional placement year spent working in a graduate-level role, and features a final-year research project. The first year covers core foundations through Anatomy and Physiology, Genetics and Biotechnology, Introduction Biosciences, Microbes, Pathogens and Immunity, and Molecules to Cells, alongside optional modules such as Foundations of Biomedical Science. The second year focuses on cellular and molecular processes with core modules including Biochemistry of Cellular Metabolism, Cell and Developmental Biology, Microbiology and Immunology, and Molecular Genetics, plus optional choices like Drug Design and Development. The third year consists entirely of a professional placement role. The final year involves advanced core studies through Biosciences Research Project, Cancer Biology and Therapeutics, and Global Health Challenges, while optional modules allow specialisation in areas such as Bioinformatics, Biology of Ageing, and Medical Genetics and Clinical Immunology.
