About this course

BA Hons in Criminology and Law (Placement Year), a sociology and law degree exploring the intersection of legal systems and criminal behaviour. Core topics include Statistics, Research Methods, Fieldwork, Legal Analysis, Communication & Writing, Critical & Analytical Thinking, Ethics & Professional Practice, and Design & Creative Practice. Students undertake a work-based placement year in the third year to gain professional workplace experience. The first year covers foundational modules such as Contract Law, Explaining Criminology, Legal Systems and Sources, Legal Systems and Justice, and Criminal Law. The second year introduces core studies in Criminological Thought, Measuring Crime, and Tort Law, alongside optional choices spanning cybercrime, family law, and mediation. In the final year, students examine Prisons, Punishment and Society and can choose to complete a Criminology Dissertation or Law Dissertation. Optional modules in the final year include subjects such as Company Law, Environmental Law, and Hate Crime.
