About this course
BSc Hons in Data Science, a mathematics and statistics degree centred on computational and mathematical methods for data analysis. Core topics include Programming, Systems Design, Computer Architecture, Embedded Systems, Control Systems, Data Analysis, Statistics, Mathematical Modelling, Human Behaviour, Artificial Intelligence & Machine Learning, and Design & Creative Practice. The course spans three years, culminating in a substantial third-year individual project undertaken alongside an academic. The first year covers core foundations through Designing Software Systems, Digital Systems, Fundamentals of Computer Science, Matrices and Calculus, Probability and Statistics, and Software Development. Year 2 builds competence via HCI: Designing for People, Multivariate Probability and Statistics, Project Skills, and Secure Data and Systems. Students can tailor their studies in later stages by selecting from optional modules such as Applied Data Science, Artificial Intelligence, Extended Reality, Internet Applications, Algorithms, Data Engineering, and Sustainable Computing. The final year offers further choice through advanced options like Advanced Programming, Changepoint and Time Series Analysis, Computer Vision, Digital Health, Machine Learning, Natural Language Processing, Quantum Computing, and Statistical Inference.
