About this course
BA Hons in Design, a Fashion Design degree focused on creative problem-solving and modern visual practice. Core topics include Laboratory Techniques, Research Methods, Critical & Analytical Thinking, Artificial Intelligence & Machine Learning, Design & Creative Practice, and Global & Comparative Perspective. The course is taught by researchers from the ImaginationLancaster research lab and features live client projects as well as an independent final-year project. The first year establishes foundational capabilities through compulsory modules such as The Reflective Design Process, Design Contexts, Visual Communication, Design Through Making, and Design Sprints, alongside optional modules exploring media culture and performance. The second year expands into digital and physical systems via Interaction and Experience Design, Insight-led Design, Design Visualisation, Design for Sustainability, and Speculative Design, with choices including discovery modules on global challenges. The final year centres on professional readiness through Design Consultancy, Design Independent Project, and Design Leadership, supported by optional modules examining environmental transformation and participatory cultures.
