About this course

BSc Hons in Economics and Finance, a degree in the Economics and Accounting and Finance subject areas, integrates the analytical approaches of economics with the study of financial markets and investing. Core topics include Data Analysis, Statistics, Mathematical Modelling, Financial Analysis, Accounting, and Policy Analysis. The curriculum links theoretical frameworks with empirical research techniques and business decision-making processes. The first year covers core economic and financial principles through Principles of Microeconomics, Principles of Macroeconomics, Foundations of Accounting, Foundations of Financial Markets, Securities and Institutions, Mathematics and Statistics for Economics, and Professional Development for Economics. In the second year, studies advance into deeper economic theory and corporate decision-making with modules such as Microeconomic Analysis, Macroeconomic Analysis, Principles of Corporate Finance, and Principles of Econometrics with Professional Development, alongside optional modules including Financial Time Series Analysis, Foundations of Asset Pricing, and Management Accounting and Information Systems. The final year addresses contemporary research and global policy through Frontiers of Economics, Advanced Corporate Finance, and Global Macroeconomics and Policy. Students can also tailor their studies in the final year by selecting from optional modules such as Econometrics and Data Science in Economics, International Trade and Business, Labour and Health Economics, Industrial Organisation, Banking and Behavioural Finance, ESG, Climate and Energy Finance, and Fintech and Market Microstructure.
