About this course
BA Hons in Economics (Industry), an economics degree centred on quantitative, macroeconomic, and microeconomic approaches to financial systems and public policy. Core topics include Data Analysis, Statistics, Mathematical Modelling, Policy Analysis, Critical & Analytical Thinking, Ethics & Professional Practice, Artificial Intelligence & Machine Learning, and Global & Comparative Perspective. The four-year degree includes a full-year industry placement during the third year, connecting academic learning with professional practice. The first year covers core foundations through modules such as Foundations of Macroeconomics, Foundations of Microeconomics, Global Challenges in World Politics, Political Theory for a Troubled World, Professional Development for Economics, and Quantitative Methods for Economics. In the second year, students build on these basics with compulsory study in Foundations of Econometrics with Professional Development, Intermediate Macroeconomics, and Intermediate Microeconomics. Optional modules in the second year allow study in areas such as Communicating using Economic Data, Economic Inequality, Environmental Economics, Games and Strategic Behaviour, Global Business Knowledge and Mindset, Global Capitalism and its Discontent, Global Superpowers, Politics of the Global South, and Who Governs Britain? Policy, Politics and Political Change. The third year is spent on a professional placement role. The final year involves core independent study through Current Issues in Economics alongside optional choices spanning Behavioural Economics, Econometrics and Data Science in Economics, Growth and Development, Global Macroeconomics and Policy, International Trade and Business, Labour and Health Economics, Industrial Organisation, Public Policy Analysis, The Politics of Borders and Migration, and Environment and Development.
