About this course

MEng Hons in Electronic and Electrical Engineering with Placement Year, an electrical and electronic engineering degree focused on the analysis and development of power systems, circuitry and automated hardware. Core topics include Programming, Systems Design, Circuit Design, Computer Architecture, Embedded Systems, Signal Processing, Microelectronics, Control Systems, Data Analysis, Statistics, Mathematical Modelling, Research Methods, Project Management, Critical & Analytical Thinking, Entrepreneurship, Artificial Intelligence & Machine Learning. The five-year programme includes a shared foundational first year across engineering disciplines, a dedicated industrial placement year in the fourth year, and a substantial independent project in the final year. The first year introduces foundational engineering principles through modules such as Applied Engineering Mathematics, Engineering Science, and Engineering Systems. The second year shifts focus to specialized electrical concepts, featuring compulsory study in Control and Robotics, Digital Electronics and Software, and Power Engineering. Year three advances technical proficiency with modules including Digital Signal Processing, High Frequency Circuit Engineering and Communications, and Power Electronics and Applications, alongside a collaborative group engineering project. After completing the fourth-year industry placement, students enter the final year to undertake an Individual Project and Industrial Consultancy. Optional modules in the final year allow students to explore specialized areas such as Advanced Embedded Systems, Advanced RF Engineering, Control and Machine Learning, Electric Vehicles, Electrical Power Systems, and Mechatronics and Control Engineering.
